Laanta Lanta Festival and Mango House Sessions
The LAANTA LANTA FESTIVAL, held every year in Lanta Old Town around March (this year from 7-9), celebrates the people of diverse and varied ethnic groups of Koh Lanta who have lived together in peace and harmony for hundreds of years on this beautiful island cast among the azure waters of the Andaman Sea
Expect authentic food, traditional entertainment, exotic drinks, and a wide array of arts and crafts on display. Performances of the traditional music and dance of the ancient Sea Gypsies can be enjoyed on the main stage, while a second beachside stage features contemporary jazz and reggae performances. Protection for a safe and happy event is sought by the Sea Gypsy ritual of casting bad spirits out into the sea, at a traditional boat floating ceremony. Side-street cultural booths display and demonstrate the making of traditional arts and crafts including Pa-the, traditional Muslim cloth weaving and Toi-pa-nun, a handicraft made from Toi leaves.
Besides traditional music, art and treats, visitors to the Laanta Lanta Festival are in for a real treat: the Mango House in Lanta Old Town hosts a House Festival featuring 7 DJs. Dance to the
tunes of DJ Neil Pierce, a name synonymous with the Soulful House scene in London, or to the music played by DJ Colin Edwards, DJ Tommy T, DJ Taz and DJ Q from the Phuket House Mafia, and Thailand's DJ Nutrip. http://www.mangohousesessions.com/
